Buenos Aires, but Monterrey, Sao Paulo, Santiago and Medellin too, are becoming (according to Dafiti; an e-commerce site dedicated to clothing and also a leader company in the Latin American countries) real alternatives, increasingly valuable to Silicon Valley and its European counterparts.
According to the company, which employs over 3,000 people and works in five countries of Latin America, the five major Latin American cities have all the features to accommodate new and innovative business realities.
Buenos Aires, Argentine
Buenos Aires is one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamics city of the whole of South America, with a workforce average very prepared (more than thirty percent is in possession of a university degree) and a minimum monthly wage set at $ 548.
The city has already proved a fertile ground for the birth of new realities: as in the case of Mercadolibre, an Argentine e-Bay, who can be considered one of the most flourishing start-up across the country. The local government has also noticed the benefits received by the birth of new companies and has announced the initiative to invest $ 3.5 million to support the local start-ups.
Medellin, Colombia
The city is particularly adapted to receive start-up: nominated in 2013 as the year’s most innovative cities from Urban Land Institute, during the last Colombia Start-ups meetings, an annual event dedicated to entrepreneurs and investors, was attended by over 1,500 people, 25% more than previous editions. Thanks also to some programs launched by the Government to encourage the development of projects and innovative companies, especially in science and technology.
Monterrey, Mexico
Monterrey, as the richest city in Mexico, is considered one of the best business centers of the country. In the city there are effectives incubators for start-ups and, in the last fifteen years, the technology industry has grown at a pace three times higher than the global average.
Sao Paulo, Brazil
Among the richest economies of the whole Latin America, the Brazilian economy offers excellent prospects for companies, both local and foreign. To facilitate the start-ups, it has been lauched a large government program, which offers advice and support, both economically and logistically. In this context, the Dafiti Company was born, a company that today is worth 250 million dollars.
Santiago de Chile, Chile
Economic, cultural and financial Chile’s centre, Santiago attracts a growing number of investors and is a great place to start-ups, as to be known as the “Valley Chilecon”. The existence of a government dedicated incubator for start-ups, which provides funds and expert advice, and simple and unobtrusive rules referring to the corporate law, contribute to the flourishing of new businesses.
